Giorgio Vasari’s ‘The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors and Architects’: Giorgio Vasari (1511-74) is credited with writing the first contemporary biographies of some of the most important artists of the Italian Renaissance including Brunelleschi, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Timeline of Art History: This is probably the best researched art site available on the Internet today.

Night Light, Interview with Artist Kirby Scudder

We’re excited to bring you an interview with Kirby Scudder. Kirby is the Director of the Santa Cruz Institute of Contemporary Arts, as well as an Artist and advocate of the arts in Santa Cruz, CA. Kirby’s current project is called Night Light, a Community Art Project for Peace.

“On Thursday, September 21st 2006 five hundred, 15,000,000 candle power spotlights will light the night along three miles of the Santa Cruz, CA coastline. �Night-Light� will bring together community to illuminate the message of peace. Artist and SCICA Co-Director Kirby Scudder along with hundreds of volunteers from the community will turn on the 500 lights at 9pm for one hour in the communal celebration of peace.”

We have the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Daniell Cornell, Curator of American Art and Director of Contemporary Art at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. Dr. Cornell is the curator of “Chicano Encounters: Local Places and Global Communities” one of the three exhibitions that make up “Chicano” which is currently on view at the de Young Museum through October 22, 2006.

“Chicano Visions: American Painters on the Verge” features a variety of Chicano artists. This portion of the exhibition is curated by Rene Yanez and features works from the collection of actor and comedian Cheech Marin.

The machines are a work of art in their own right! “Art-o-mat is based on the concept of taking art and ‘repackaging’ it to make it part of our daily lives” (artomat.org). Art-o-mat features miniature works of art (paintings, sculputures, photography, etc.) from over 400 artists worldwide.
